Research plan of industrial by-products of sulfuric acid and calcium recycling

Absrtact
In this study, an effective process was proposed to recover BOFS (Basic oxygen furnace slag) and spent sulfuric acid. The calcium and iron contained in BOFS were converted to calcium sulfate powder/whisker and ferric sulfate flocculant, respectively. The anhydrous calcium sulfate fabricated in this study was with purity of 80% and Hunter brightness of 88%. Calcium sulfate whisker fabricated in this study was with length of 160 μm and aspect ratio of 30 by hydrothermal method. Ferric sulfate, another product fabricated in this study, was demonstrated to be an effective flocculant for phosphorus removal from aquatic solution, about 90% of phosphorus was removed for aquatic solutions between pH 2-12. The COD removal reached 80% for wastewater containing IPA, which exhibited similar removal efficiency comparing to a commercial flocculant.
